The idea behind this project became the exploration of depicting specific properties of different music genres through a single typographical symbol.
Through thorough research and numerous hours of listening to different kinds of music, I have chosen 26 genres, all starting with a different letter of the (English) alphabet. Every single genre was analyzed historically, structurally, and musically, and a single letter best carrying the properties was designated to each of them. The end result became a musical alphabet giving visual insight into at least a small portion of what the world of music has to offer.
Three different kinds of letters exist:
1. Letters taken from an existing font, and not changed in the slightest, as a result of their properties already fitting with the genre (11 letters)
2. Letters taken from an existing font, but digitally manipulated or changed to gain specific new characteristics (7 letters)
3. Letters completely designed by me, either physically or digitally (8 letters)
The alphabet later became the visual identity of this entire project/webpage, as to symbolize the many types of music there are, and give the identity a more dynamic note.
THE SPECIFICATIONS ON EACH GENRE CAN BE FOUND BY CLICKING THE LETTERS ABOVE.
